What is the identified problem?

To invent new services or solutions to manage traffic congestion, improve transportation system and implement effective pollution control measures in Tier 1 cities.

Brief about Solution

To conceptualize the working of a carpooling system as social networking website, this will facilitate users to get maximum benefits out of the system.
As a common man we need to travel a lot daily, for various purposes. We can split a journey in general into two phases:

  • Planning prior to the journey
  • Actual journey
Idea 1
Here we propose a hybrid solution (communicate2commute) to effectively implement a carpooling system with the help of a user-friendly and social interface.
Carpooling - Sharing a ride among two or more individuals.

We propose to develop a hybrid social network which primarily focuses on car-pooling and facilitates the same. The main objective is to bring together people who are willing to travel together by sharing their rides. This gives them an opportunity to make new friends and also to avail free/paid services in an effective manner. The site will also give the user an option to start discussion forums and serve as a common platform to access and avail various public/private transport services. The site also aims at promotion of electric cars and CNG as part of go green initiatives.

Idea 2:
Here we propose a solution for implementing an effective transportation system.
Once the commuter has decided his destination, he will choose his mode of transport from the different alternatives available.
The government can take a couple of steps to ease and promote the transportation system.
  • Provide fuel subsidy for public transport systems
  • Allow frequent travelers to travel in toll roads at peak times with subsidized toll cost
  • Promotional campaigns for using public transport
  • Increase parking fee and impose parking restrictions in high congestion roads
  • Strict emission control norms
  • Different time slots for schools, colleges, corporate offices and companies
  • Interlinking of traffic signals for better traffic management

How well does the proposed solution enable great commuter experience?

It helps people save cost, save time, meet new people and contribute to the society by reducing pollution.

How attractive is this idea for partners from transportation, business, government, non profit or other sectors to get involved?

• Reduction in traffic • Effective utilization of Public Transport • Corporate Social Responsibility • Reduction of travel expenses • Reduction in consumption of fuel

Environmental impact, whether the proposed idea in predominantly service based without adding more physical structures

This idea is predominantly service based by using technology as the main platform to solve the problem without having to change or add physical structures.
