Regulating Bus Management System Using Cloud Platform
What is the identified problem?
For a highly crowded country like India, public transport is one system where most of the people depend upon. The literary survey shows that the demand for buses are increasing day by day and the factors like the frequency of buses, bus service etc are determined based on the survey collected long back. Hence there is a great lack of technology that can efficiently use the bus resources available for meeting the huge demand. In a country like India, proper planning and use of resources is the only way to satisfy the needs of a large population. Another major problem is that, the buses either line up one after other or they don’t turn up. The passengers are not aware of the timings of the next bus, the empty seats in the next bus etc, which makes their travel highly unplanned and chaotic. Say for example, when there are 10 passengers in a bus stop and there are only 5 empty seats in the bus, currently all the 10 will board the same bus as they are not aware of the empty seats in the next bus and the approximate timing at which it will arrive. If they are provided with details like the empty seats in the next bus and the approximate time at which the buses will come, the passengers can plan their travel easily.
Brief about Solution
We propose a system in which the passengers are requested to register their arrival to the bus stop through a Toll free voice call, which can be implemented using TROPO API in cloud. The Call registers the source, destination and the approximate time frame during which the passenger is expected to arrive. By doing so the total number of incoming and outgoing passengers in a bus stop can be calculated and the difference is compared with the number of seats available. If enough number of seats are available the normal bus schedule is followed, else the bus frequency is increased.
Say for example if there are totally 5 buses during the time interval 9 to 10. If the total number of empty seats is 100 and if there are 150 passengers, then the bus frequency can be increased to 6 buses during 9 to 10.This can be implemented with the help of cloud software and the efficiency can be increased by using Gossip protocol. The SAAS service of cloud can be used to process the data in the database. The database is manipulated by the voice call using TROPO.
In order to provide an efficient information portal to the passengers an user interface can be implemented using service cloud concept of sales force. This portal clearly gives the total number of passengers in a bus, the number of empty seats and the arrival time of the next bus.
The above system can efficiently regulate public transport and can provide a satisfactory service to the passengers.
How well does the proposed solution enable great commuter experience?
When there are 10 passengers in a bus stop and there are only 5 empty seats in the bus, currently all the 10 will board the same bus as they are not aware of the empty seats in the next bus and the approximate timing at which it will arrive. If they are provided with details like the empty seats in the next bus and the approximate time at which the buses will come, the passengers can plan their travel easily. Every passenger will register their arrival and hence there is greater chance for all the passengers to have a comfortable travel. The Bus managers will also be aware of the number of passengers coming to the bus stop and hence they can give good service to the passengers. On the whole the proposed system helps in good utilization of the resources and help in providing efficient service to the the passengers
How attractive is this idea for partners from transportation, business, government, non profit or other sectors to get involved?
The proposed system is attractive for the transportation and government for the following reason 1. For a huge amount of population the existing buses can be efficiently used. 2.The passengers are provided with all the travel information and hence they can easily plan their travel. 3.As the resources are effectively used there is great savings in transport maintenance and other costs. 4. Efficient and satisfied service is provided to the passengers as every passenger makes a registration and there are great chance for all the passengers to have a comfortable journey. 5.The system can also be further extended for e ticketing etc for efficient ticket management system.
Environmental impact, whether the proposed idea in predominantly service based without adding more physical structures
The proposed system does not use much of physical structure. The proposed system is maximally based on the service created in cloud. Apart from mobile phones and computer other physical structures are not needed. The invent of cloud computing made the necessity for even downloading software to a limited level. Hence the proposed system is more of service based than physical structure.
