Disha
What is the identified problem?
Vehicles stuck in a traffic jam starts moving haphazardly breaking the road discipline and creates complex bottlenecks. With the above condition prevalent often emergency service vehicles like Ambulance, Police, Fire brigade, etc. are also stuck in the traffic.

Brief about Solution
Driving in India is Hell
of a task.
It was understood that,
any problem on the Indian road is considered to be a human error, however with
proper information system, efficient law enforcement bodies and by trusting
peoples behavior traffic management issues can be minimized.
We considered Four cases:
Cars stuck in a traffic jam starts moving haphazardly breaking the road
discipline and creates complex bottlenecks.
With the above condition prevalent often emergency service vehicles like
Ambulance, Police, Fire brigade, etc. are also stuck in the traffic.
Major cities are planning to have metro railway projects, thus
construction sites on roads are barricaded which narrows the road and slows
down the traffic.
Pedestrians in India are considered as a weaker commuter on road thus
least facility is provided to them, increasing their life risk.
Understanding the
scenarios and the constraints, an Interactive Information System seems to be
the most efficient solution to the traffic congestion and thus reduce the
intensity of the above problems. With poor roads conditions and bad urban
planning very little could be done to totally eradicate the traffic issues
without infrastructural changes.
Considering a driver being stuck in a traffic jam, following information
is necessary:
§ Information on next diversion/ diversions.
Time to cross the bottleneck.
Information on traffic flow ahead.
All this information will provide a feedback to the driver
and address all his curiosities.
The Interactive Information system also takes care of the emergency service vehicles and helps them
to navigate through traffic.
The Information system
would help the drivers to understand the situation and thus stop honking horns
and also allow them to stop their cars as a real time update of movement is provided through the system and
thus helps to reduce noise and air pollution sustaining the environmental
conditions.
At junctions it is observed that vehicles tend to stop on the zebra
crossing as the traffic signal post is placed ahead of it, causing problems for
pedestrians to cross the road. So the placement of the traffic signal post is
altered and brought behind the zebra crossing so that vehicles stop before the
crossing.
How well does the proposed solution enable great commuter experience?
Informs the driver about the required information during the traffic jam i.e. up to what extent on road, traffic is stuck. and guides the traffic police also.
How attractive is this idea for partners from transportation, business, government, non profit or other sectors to get involved?
Companies can act as philanthropist and sponsor the display as it will be used as their advertisement during normal traffic flow.
Environmental impact, whether the proposed idea in predominantly service based without adding more physical structures
It is using the existing size of sign boards on the street lamp posts and is totally a service based structure.
